Which city should I teach in, Atlanta, Houston, or South Florida?

I will graduate in Spring 2009 from Georgia State here in Atlanta and I want a change of atmosphere. I like living in Atlanta because it is a nice city, but can anyone suggest to me which city would fair better in terms of beginning a teaching career?

+ I would stay away from Florida as it has the worse education and work for teachers. I would go to Texas as my first choice or stay in Georgia. If it were me, my first choice would be in New England somewhere as they have the best school systems and pay.

She’s right about Florida. Fla’s Republican legislature is brutal with their underfunding of schools in the state. They just recently made major cuts to the budget for the upcoming year and counties have no idea how they’re going to work it now. Teacher salaries here are well below national averages and the cost of living is well above average, especially in South Florida. A lot of Fla. teachers leave the state and move to Ga. or NC for better pay and cost of living. The schools themselves down here aren’t really so bad, it’s just year after year since Jeb Bush was govermor, the schools have had to do more with less, and now we’re #50 in per pupil spending. I don’t know about Texas, but they probably don’t pay teachers well either. Georgia or NC might be your best bets.
